Dr Bijay Kumar Sahu

Dr Bijay Kumar Sahu obtained his M Sc Tech degree in Applied Geology from Indian School of Mines (IIT, Dhanbad) and M Tech in Applied Geology from IIT, Kharagpur. He has put 34 years of stupendous service in the Geological Survey of India. He has successfully carried out systematic geological mapping, special thematic mapping and mineral investigation in different parts of the country.  Dr Sahu pursued his PhD in ITC, the Netherlands in collaboration with the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He was awarded PhD for his work on a global project “Reassembly of Central Gondwana based on aeromagnetic data”. He worked extensively on collection, compilation, processing and interpretation of aeromagnetic and geological data of India, eastern Antarctica, Sri Lanka, Madagascar and eastern and southern Africa during the period.

He served GSI Training Institute as a faculty in the Centre for Geoinformation Management Training (CGMT) for 5 years, where he conceptualised, formulated and implemented training programmes for national and international participants. As an expert, he was engaged in teaching geological mapping, geochemical data processing, GIS, Remote Sensing and Geophysics. He also successfully carried out projects on “Predicative Mineral Potential Mapping using Data Integration and Spatial Modelling techniques”.

As Deputy Director General,  Remote Sensing and Aerial Survey (RSAS) Division of GSI, Bangalore, he headed the prestigious National Aerogeophysical Mapping Programme (NAGMP), Multi-spectral and Hyperspectral remote sensing programmes of GSI and research activities of National Centre of Excellence in Earthscience Research (NCEGR).
