Dr. Sanjay Das, did his Masters in Applied Geology from India Institute of Technology, Kharagpur with First Rank. Before joining Geological Survey of India, he worked as Exploration Geologist in Tata Refractories. While posted in the Gujarat State unit of GSI and he did the specialized thematic mapping for six years and generated a comprehensive report on the structure, strarigraphy and tectonics of Pre Cambrian terrain of the Gujarat State. His Doctoral thesis was also on the structure and metamorphism of Pre Cambrian terrain of Gujarat. Further he was engaged in Problem specific (Lignite mining problems) and regional geoenvironmental appraisal for five field seasons resulting in with the generation of very comprehensive reports on geoenvironmental assessment, hazards identification and mitigation measures.
Later he did his Professional Masters (Geoinformatics) from International Institute of Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation (ITC), Netherlands, in the year 2002. After his specialization in Geoinformatics, He worked in the remote sensing and geoinformatics divisions of GSI for eighteen years.
His expertise in the field of Geoinformatics is in the following fields: Concept and practices in Spatial and Non spatial Data management, Generation of spatial and non-spatial data by using ARC VIEW and ARC INFO software and geo-statistical analysis by using Arc GIS software; Digital Morphometric analysis using Arc Info and ILWIS softwares; Exploratory data Analysis, Data Base Management using SQL in MS Access.
His has high level expertise in the field of Remote Sensing and Digital Image Processing Techniques, especially in the use of new techniques in Hyperspectral Mapping with the help of Spectroradiometers and ENVI softwares. Image processing using ENVI, Arc GIS and ILWIS softwares. He has also executed projects involving Thermal remote sensing and Processing of SAR data using ENVI – SARSCAPE software
Dr Sanjay Das also worked as a faculty of GIS and Remote Sensing in the Centre For Geoinformation Management Training, GSI Training Institute, Hyderabad since, for a period of six years from 2011 to2017. He has imparted training to the scientists of GSI as well as international trainees from different nations during his six year stint in GSI training institute. He has several national and international publications.
