A.K Samadder is one of the pioneering geologists in the field of offshore geotechnical studies for port and harbour development and was actively involved in various projects along east coast of India. Since 1980, he worked in the erstwhile Marine Wing of GSI and engaged in various offshore geotechnical and hydrographic studies for port and harbour development in the Bay of Bengal along the coast of West Bengal, Odisha, AP and Tamil Nadu. He has written a book titled “Hand Book on Offshore Geotechnical Studies” which is a guide for all the marine geologists engaged in offshore geotechnical studies. Shri. AK Samadder retired as Director (Geology), Marine Wing, GSI in the year 2011. His role as technical advisor in various projects has immensely helped us. He was also the Consultant Geologist for “Sustainable Coastal Protection and Management Investment Program (tranche-II), Karnataka”, (an ADB funded project) on behalf of Geo Marine Solutions Pvt. Ltd., who was one of the consortium members.
